about

In early 2023 I spoke to Jimmy Katz about a book of modulating etudes I had been working on, and the idea emerged to make recordings of each etude and release them at the same time as the book. We completed two recording sessions (one in March and one in April) and these recordings are the result, all of which are complete takes with no edits. I wrote the etudes as a harmonic and technical challenge for myself, so I wanted to show my honest take, including the mistakes. I’m sure they could be played more perfectly, but I wanted to document how I imagine them and where I am in this moment. Thank you to Giant Steps Arts for sponsoring this project and making this recording possible. Thank you to Jimmy Katz for his incredible work as recording engineer. I also want to thank James Kogan, Dave Darlington, and Oscar de la Fe for their work on the project as well.
